There is More to Roadside Assistance than Just Towing Services

Roadside assistance is more than just towing, it’s round-the-clock protection for drivers when the unexpected happens. Whether your car stalls in traffic, gets a flat tire on a provincial road, or runs out of battery in the rain, roadside assistance sends help right where you are.

Why Roadside Assistance Is a Valuable Add-On

It covers essential services such as battery jump-starts, tire changes, lock-out help, and emergency fuel delivery, and in some cases, even hotel or travel assistance if your vehicle can’t be repaired immediately.

This means less stress, fewer out-of-pocket costs, and faster recovery from breakdowns or accidents, especially valuable in the Philippines where traffic, long trips, and unpredictable weather can take their toll.

With most comprehensive insurance plans offering it as a free or affordable add-on, roadside assistance gives drivers peace of mind, safety, and convenience far beyond standard towing coverage.

Common Roadside Assistance Services

  • Towing services if your car is disabled or in an accident. For example, FPG covers towing up to ₱5,000 per event.

  • Battery jump-start / boosting when your car won’t start due to a dead battery.

  • Flat tyre change or replacement (using your spare tyre) when you get a puncture.

  • Fuel delivery (minor amount of fuel) when you run out. Usually you still pay for the fuel.

  • Lock-out assistance if you’re locked out of your vehicle.

  • Minor on-site repairs (in some cases) to get your vehicle going again, or else tow to a repairer.

Things to Watch Out For

  • Coverage limits per event — e.g., OONA lists geographic limits and event-based service caps.

  • Number of events per year — some plans may allow only a few calls or a fixed number of services.

  • Geographic and vehicle age eligibility — older vehicles or remote locations may have different terms.

  • What you must pay / what is excluded — fuel cost, parts, tolls, parking fees often not covered.

  • How to avail service — usually via a hotline, providing vehicle details, location, plate number. Example: FGen lists call details.
